Somatic Therapy: Reconnecting with the Human Experience.

You’re likely here because something hasn’t fully resolved, and you’re seeking relief from chronic pain, trauma, anxiety, tension, or discomfort that doesn’t go away, no matter what you try.

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that goes beyond talk therapy and traditional massage. In my Phoenix practice, sessions focus on the connection between your mind, body, and nervous system.

Through guided awareness of sensation, movement, breath, and supportive touch, your body can begin to release stress and trauma to naturally heal itself.

Rediscover Ease. Release What doesn't Serve You.

Somatic therapy recognizes that stress and trauma are not purely mental; they also live in the body. In the same way, pain and tightness aren’t always just physical. Many first hear about this concept in Bessel van der Kolk’s The Body Keeps the Score.

By noticing sensations and gradually releasing held patterns, energy, and emotions, we can balance both the physical body and emotional experience. Sessions are designed to help you heal while giving you the tools to continue to heal yourself long after you leave.

Ryan is an incredibly skilled somatic therapist, and working with him over the past few months has been a meaningful part of my healing journey. As someone navigating a major life transition, I’ve found his approach to be both grounding and deeply supportive.

What to Expect in a Session

Every session is different, because every body is different. Your session will be guided by what you need in that moment, with the goal of helping your system handle both discomfort and joy with more capacity.

The session may include:

  1. Check-in: Sharing your goals, challenges, and health history.

  2. Grounding: Breath, orientation, and building a sense of safety in the body.

  3. Exploring sensation: Tracking bodily sensations, noticing patterns, and allowing the body to "speak" to you.

  4. Gentle release: Subtle motions, guided touch, or micro-movements to help free stored tension. What has your body needed to do or say that it hasn't been able to?

  5. Supportive Touch: Many sessions will include massage or hands-on support to support this process. Modalities draw from fascial work, Swedish massage, craniosacral, and Reiki.

  6. Integration: We close with grounding tools and coming "back to Earth" so that you feel ready for the rest of your day. Most clients feel renewed, a calm aliveness after the session.

We will communicate throughout the process. This is a gentle practice, and while some of the experience may be challenging emotionally, it will not be painful. â€‹â€‹

Backed By Research

Somatic therapy is grounded trauma research by experts such as Dr. Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing®) and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and was developed from research in neuroscience, psychology, and physiology. We now understand how trauma and chronic stress affect the body, often creating patterns of tension, pain, disease, and dysregulation when ignored.

When the body perceives a threat, the autonomic nervous system can get stuck in “fight, flight, or freeze” responses. Somatic therapy helps restore balance by guiding the body back into a calm, resting state. Through awareness of sensations, micro-movements, and safe release of stored energy, you can build new neural pathways, learning to move between resting and ready without getting stuck at one end of the spectrum.
